The Schadow Arkaden is probably the best-known shopping centre in the heart of Düsseldorf’s city centre. Around eight million visitors stroll through the media group’s 17,000 square metre shopping mall every year. Schadow Arkaden

The Rheinische Post Mediengruppe is also present in the heart of Düsseldorf’s city centre: around eight million people visit the ‘Schadow Arkaden’ shopping mall every year. On three sales levels with retail space of more than 17,500 square metres there are over 70 specialist shops that leave virtually no customer desire unsatisfied. The offering ranges from fashion, shoes and cosmetics to living accessories and gyms. Restaurants, cafés and bistros as well as round about 1,000 parking slots in the building make the Schadow Arkaden an urban meeting place for all.

“We have waiting lists”, says Harald Feit about the level of letting. The managing director of the Rheingrund Immobilien Verwaltungs-GmbH, a subsidiary of the Rheinische Post Mediengruppe, has managed the complex since it was built. The complex also includes doctor’s practices and office levels with a floor area of 12,500 square metres. “Space is almost fully let on the retail side and 90 percent let on the office side”, says Feit. He says the recipe for the success of a shopping centre is to offer what consumers want. Harald Feit explains: “It’s my job to ensure that the Schadow Arkaden always remain en vogue.”

One year after opening, the Schadow Arkaden won the Shopping Center Award from the Council of Shopping Centers as Europe’s best shopping mall. The architecture and the convincing mix of tenants were singled out for particular praise.

Haus Edelweiss

The Rheinische Post Mediengruppe also owns a holiday home: the Haus Edelweiss in centre of the town of Oberstdorf in the Allgäu, the southernmost spa and health resort in Germany. The media group built the beautiful holiday complex in 1996, fifty years after the publication of the first issue of the Rheinische Post. Travellers from all over the world spend their holidays in the apartment complex under the age-old trees.

The facilities include an extensive fitness and spa programme as well as many leisure activities: The spa town of Oberstdorf with its healthy climate is situated at an altitude of 843 metres and is worth a visit at any time of year: in winter for skiing and snowboarding, in summer for mountain hiking and cycling. Apart from that there is the spectacle of the Almabtrieb (the ceremonial return of the livestock from the high summer pastures) in September, a Bavarian flea market in October and the Four Hills ski jumping tournament in December.

Besides the well-being of the guests, nature is also close to the heart of the Rheingrund Immobilien Verwaltungs-GmbH, which is responsible for the management: the holiday complex was built in an ecological manner and is an integral part of the concept of dealing consciously with nature.
